THRIVE Africa Challenge Finalists

On February 4th, ten (10) leading entrepreneurs creating new technologies and game changing innovations for global good, will take to the stage to present their innovative technology solutions.

One winning startup will receive the THRIVE AFRICA Challenge Award, brand exposure, opportunity to participate in THRIVE’s Silicon Valley Startup Bootcamp, access to the THRIVE ecosystem, and a spot at pitch finals for Samsung’s Extreme Tech Challenge (XTC) and the award-winning THRIVE VII Accelerator Program (March-June 2021) which includes investment and pitching at THRIVE | Forbes Demo Day in Salinas, California, USA.

The THRIVE AFRICA Challenge, in partnership with the U.S. Department of State, is part of THRIVE’s Global Initiative which aims to enable the needed transformations in Africa’s food value chain as highlighted in the U.N.’s Sustainable Development Goals. The Challenge will accomplish this by identifying, promoting, accelerating, and investing in innovative early-stage African startups that are creating new and alternative paths for a more efficient and sustainable global food system.

FOODLOCKER: Foodlocker supplies farm produce and consumer goods to large buyers by using data science and demand-matching technologies to enable smallholder farmers to produce against certain demand and to upscale their productivity. 

FARMER 1ST: Farmer 1st provides mobile payment and financial services, access to market, storage and logistics solutions to farmers and by extension agro buyers.

HYDROPONICS AFRICA: Hydroponics Africa’s simplified hydroponic system enables farmers to produce both food crops and livestock fodder without the use of soil. 

AGRO SUPPLY UGANDA: Agro Supply has developed a mobile layaway savings platform that allows farmers to save and invest in seeds, fertilizer, chemicals and tools without having to take credit. 

MAMLAKA FOODS: Mamlaka seeks to eliminate inefficiencies in the supply of fresh produce by leveraging end-to-end technology along the supply chain to ensure better quality produce and better pricing for farmers and consumers.

M-SHAMBA: M-shamba supports smallholder farmers in the production of safe and quality food and matches the supply from the farms with demand from vendors and distributors thus creating a ready market for farmers.

SOLAR FREEZE: Solar Freeze is pioneering potable cold storage units powered by solar energy for rural smallholder farmers of perishable produce. 

FRESHBOX: Freshbox enterprises designs, manufactures, and deploys Solar-Powered Cold Storage Solutions for fresh produce farmers, aggregators and retailers. 

3DIMO: 3DIMO provides livestock biometric identification to track and trace health abnormalities in animals using IR imagery and AI.

FARM KIOSK: Farm Kiosk is an agribusiness enterprise working on a philosophy of creating a borderless agribusiness space in Uganda and across East Africa using it’s Mobile App.
