World Plant Milk Day – August 22

World Plant Milk Day is an international day that celebrates plant-based alternatives to dairy milk. Founded by Robbie Lockie, Co-founder of Plant Based News, in 2017 and established as a partnership with ProVeg in 2018, the campaign has attracted the attention of millions of people around the world and helped accelerate the transition from dairy milk to the rich variety of plant-based alternatives.

“There are now dairy-free alternatives for everything you could wish for, from ice cream to pizza to yoghurt to cheese, and so many different plant milks to choose from – all more readily available than ever. There’s never been a better time to give dairy-free a go.”

Sean Mackenney, Senior Campaign Manager, ProVeg International

When it comes to human health, research shows that a shift to a wholefood, plant-based diet is good for you and can help prevent obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and certain types of cancer.

“This marks a profound shift in consumer tastes and attitudes. More and more people are waking up to the delicious benefits of plant milk.”

Robbie Lockie, Co-founder of Plant Based News and World Plant Milk Day

Choosing a plant-based diet is one of the best things you can do for the environment as plant-based diets are kind to the earth and kind to animals. Plant-based dairy supply chains are also better poised to respond in real-time to changing market conditions and are not vulnerable to the type of disruptions inherent in industrial animal agriculture. Some of the key benefits of plant-based milk are:

Less dairy means a better worldIt’s healthy — plain and simpleIt’s tasty
Animal agriculture leads to major pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. This drives climate change.Plant milk does not contain IFG-1 (a growth hormone given to cows) which has been linked to the growth of cancer cells.Plant milk comes in multiple options ranging from soy, almond, cashew, and rice, to oat, hemp, flax, and coconut.
