ThincLab Innovation Hub to drive AgTech and Food innovation

South Australian Government’s Department of Primary Industries and Regions SA (PIRSA) has partnered with the University of Adelaide’s ThincLab to establish a unique AgTech incubator at the Loxton Research Centre to foster entrepreneurial thinking and high impact innovation in the region. It will offer a place where entrepreneurs, business startups, existing companies, associations, and students can develop innovations and business models with a view to rapid acceleration to meet market needs.

An AgTech Demonstration Farm is also being launched at the Loxton Research Centre to help show producers in the region the productivity benefits of taking up innovative technology. The first four AgTech suppliers being showcased at the Loxton Demonstration Farm with a crop management focus are: D3Ag, Measurement Engineering Australia (MEA), CropX and Tevatronic.

ThincLab Loxton, housed in PIRSA’s state of the art Loxton Research Centre, is a place where unconventional thinkers can give their ideas an unfair advantage. It’s home to the creative thinkers, the rule-breakers, the challengers. The ones who see the world differently, and for whom ideas are everything and the future is unlimited.

Services offered at ThincLab Loxton will include mentoring, visits from start-ups based at Adelaide and Waite ThincLabs, intensive programs for Riverland start-ups and businesses, 3D printing facilities to assist in prototype development, access to the ThincLab International Program, international ThincLabs, and international investor network, as well as networking functions.

Participants will be provided with desk space for up to two years at the Loxton Research Centre, and mentors will work one-on-one with participants on topics such as business strategy, marketing, and branding. ThincLab Loxton is the fifth ThincLab to be established, joining labs at the University of Adelaide’s North Terrace and Waite campuses, in Singapore, and in Chalôns in France.

Agri-Innovation Center in Southern Israel

Arieli Capital has signed a cooperation agreement with Ramat Negev Regional Council and Ramat Negev Industries, for the establishment of an agri-tech innovation center, within the jurisdiction of the regional council in southern Israel. The objective of the innovation centre is to expand the economic potential of the region’s agricultural sector and the agricultural research and development capabilities developed in the region in recent decades.

$5 million will be invested in the project. The center will focus on areas of expertise of the region including general agriculture, desert agriculture, marine agriculture, medical cannabis and more. The Eilat Technology Center (ETC), a subsidiary of Arieli Capital will take the lead in this venture, with the participation of the Ramat Negev Regional Council and other investors.

Ramat Hanegev is one of the largest and most successful agricultural regions in Israel. It covers 1.050 million acres and accounts for about 22 percent of Israel’s total land area. 

5 to 10 promising startups will be selected by senior officials in the agricultural and investment fields to participate in the center’s ag-tech accelerator. Entrepreneurs will be offered several assistance options including financial support and mentoring by technology and business experts from the agriculture and food industries, access to labs, and R&D facilities with the overseeing of the commercialization process.
